About

I'm Tuomas Tielinen, a Systems Architect with over 15 years of experience building and operating IT platforms. My focus has been on applying Cloud Architecture principles to design scalable, resilient and secure infrastructures — bridging the gap between complex on-premise environments and modern cloud-native solutions. In practice that has ranged from maintaining a mission-critical core banking platform (Temenos T24) under a 24/7 on-call rota, to operating a multi-cluster OpenShift environment — and its Ceph storage — in a private data centre.

Focus areas

Container Orchestration — OpenShift and Kubernetes. In my most recent role I operated a multi-cluster OpenShift platform — separate development, production and management clusters — in a private data centre, including the underlying Ceph storage. I supported the developers building on the platform and helped migrate their applications from OpenShift 3 to OpenShift 4.

Automation & GitOps — building GitLab CI/CD pipelines together with development teams, day-to-day GitOps with ArgoCD, and managing RHEL fleets with Ansible. The Infrastructure section of this site shows the same Ansible-first approach at homelab scale.

Security & Observability — installing, configuring and maintaining Red Hat Advanced Cluster Security (RHACS), and wiring security scanning into the CI/CD pipelines. On the observability side: Prometheus + Alertmanager + Grafana across both professional and personal projects, plus the Elastic Stack in professional roles. The Monitoring page documents the homelab equivalent.

Current focus

Continuing to bridge hybrid environments by expanding my public-cloud expertise — currently preparing for the AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03) certification.

Why a homelab

I'm a deeply hands-on architect: design decisions should be grounded in practical reality, not slides. The homelab documented here is where I stay sharp on the tools I have worked with — Proxmox, Ansible, Podman/Quadlets, the Prometheus stack — and where I explore newer interests like local, privacy-focused AI (Ollama, Qdrant). The architectural choices on this site are the same ones I'd defend in a design review, just at a smaller scale.
